Our Team

Susan Berry
Susan Berry is a romance author, editor, graphic designer, and founder of Rainier Author Studio. After working with independent authors at two small presses, she started the studio with a team of talented editors and designers whose work she admires. She brings 25 years of marketing experience and a degree in social science to her work.
Having written several romance novels herself, Susan knows how much trust it takes to hand someone a manuscript you’ve poured yourself into. She brings that understanding to every project, whether she’s editing a chapter, designing a book cover, or helping an author figure out what comes next.
Susan is also a disability rights advocate and has spoken publicly for Together We Care, an organization that advocates for the rights of people with disabilities.
One of Susan’s favorite parts of the job is cheering authors on through the hard revisions and celebrating with them when they finally get to hold their books. There’s usually chocolate involved.

She has a wide range of experience working with authors to critique their manuscripts in the beginning stages of writing, editing the final draft, and proofreading to catch any last issues before publication. Her biggest goal as an editor is to create a partnership with each author and make sure their project is the best it can be, while still maintaining the distinctive and special voice of each story. She prioritizes putting the author first, keeping open communication throughout the process, and treating each manuscript with care and respect.
In her spare time when she isn’t reading one of the many books on her “To Be Read” list, she enjoys exploring new places with her husband and children. Her favorite ways to adventureinclude hiking, camping, or horseback riding. She also enjoys playing guitar and spending time with her dogs.
